GitHub and pull requests

Connect a GitHub repository, push your work, and open pull requests.

The GitHub view in the code editor links your project to a GitHub repository. From there you push and pull, open and review pull requests, file issues, and follow workflow runs, without leaving Lyna.

What you can do

  • Create a repository for your project, or link one you already have.
  • Push your commits and pull changes made elsewhere.
  • Open pull requests, including drafts.
  • Review a pull request: read its files, approve, request changes or comment.
  • List and create issues.
  • See workflow runs, deployments and the commits on GitHub.

Open the GitHub view

In Code mode, choose GitHub in the views rail.

Connect GitHub

Choose Connect GitHub and install the Lyna GitHub App on your account or organization. You choose which repositories it can reach.

  • Create Repository: pick the Owner (your personal account or an organization), a Repository name, and Public or Private.
  • Link Existing Repository: search your repositories, or type owner/repo.

To stop syncing, choose Unlink Repository. This removes the link, not the repository on GitHub.

Push and pull

The view shows how many commits you are ahead of and behind GitHub. Check sync status refreshes the counts.

  • Push sends your commits to GitHub.
  • Pull brings in commits from GitHub. Pull with Rebase puts your local commits on top of them.
  • Force Push replaces the history on GitHub with yours.

Force push cannot be undone

Force Push overwrites the remote history. Commits that only exist on GitHub are lost. Use it only when you mean to.

Only committed work is pushed. Commit your changes in Source Control first.

Open a pull request

Work on a branch

Create a branch in Source Control and commit your work on it. You cannot open a pull request from the base branch itself.

Push the branch

Choose Push.

Create the pull request

Choose Create Pull Request. Fill in the Title and Description, check the Base branch and the From branch, and turn on Open as a draft if the work is not ready.

The Pull requests list shows each pull request with its state (Open, Draft, Merged, Closed), its checks (Checks passed, Checks failed, Checks running) and its review state.

Review a pull request

Open a pull request from the list. Its Files tab shows every changed file with additions and deletions. Leave comments with Add Comment, then choose Approve, Request Changes or Comment and Submit Review.

Issues, actions and deployments

  • Issues: see the open issues. Choose New Issue, write a Title and a Description, then Create Issue.
  • Actions: see the latest workflow runs and their state (Succeeded, Failed, Running, Queued). Open a run on GitHub.
  • Deployments: see the deployments of the repository.
  • Remote Commits: see the commits on GitHub. Copy a hash or a message, or choose View on GitHub.

Disconnect

Choose Disconnect GitHub to remove the app connection. Your code in Lyna stays as it is.
